The First Congregational Church of Meriden is excited to present

Lunch 'ní Concert

a jazz performance with a new twist on Sunday, May 31. Ticket holders will first enjoy a buffet luncheon at 12:30 p.m. followed by an electrifying concert featuring the Hot Cat Jazz Band at 1:30 p.m.

Since 1990, the Hot Cat Jazz Band has been one of the hottest Dixieland and Swing jazz bands in Connecticut. The Hot Cats are increasingly popular for their exciting and entertaining performances, coupled with hard blowing and original arrangements of traditional jazz standards. Their prime influences include the likes of Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Fats Waller, Jellyroll Morton, Nat King Cole, Louis Jordan and Duke Ellington. Check them out at www.hotcatjazz.com or listen to them here

Folks who just canít get enough jazz are also invited to attend the 10:00 a.m. worship service that day in the First Church Sanctuary, with the Hot Cat Jazz Band providing the music during the service. Tickets for the luncheon and concert ($20 adult, $10 child under 16) are available either at the church office, at Prentis Printing Solutions at 35 Pratt St., or by phone at 203-631-8423. Tim Zakrzewski, a member of First Church and a member of the recent mission trip to Nicaragua, organized a drive to help provide clothes for children in the area where he served. New or lightly used clothing for both girls and boys aged 7-17 were collected during December 2014. The clothing drive was a big success, with four large bins collected. Shipping will be free! The children should receive their clothes sometime in early spring when a biyearly shipment goes down to Central America. May thanks to all who donated.

Nicaragua Mission

Pastor Bruce, along with four other members of our congregation, will become part of a 14-member group of youths headed out at 6:00 am on Aug. 2, 2014 out of Bradley Airport, changing planes in Atlanta and then flying to Managua, Nicaragua. These folks, under the auspices of the NicaPhoto organization, will work in the barrio of Sonrisa de Dios (Smile of God), creating a classroom for children in secondary education. This will be the 23rd mission trip for Bruce, all but three overseas and his first with adults as co-workers. You can keep track of their activities by logging in daily to the FCC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FCCMeriden
